A passepartout (also called a mat, mat board or mount) is a card frame that sits between your poster and the frame. It gives the print a clean border and adds a classic, elegant look.
The poster is placed behind the passepartout. The window is cut slightly smaller than the poster, so the edges of the poster are covered and the poster is held in place.
A passepartout is always optional.
